How to Maximize Your Time Off in 2025 with Annual Leave

By strategically planning your leave around these holidays, you can create long stretches of time off while using minimal days from your annual leave. Here are some great options:

1. Maximize Time Off in January:

  • Take 2-5 January Off
Since New Year’s Day is a Wednesday, by taking off the 2nd and 3rd (Thursday and Friday), you can get a 5-day break from Wednesday to Sunday using only 2 days of annual leave. In Scotland, with the 2 January bank holiday, you can get this 5-day break using only 1 day of annual leave.

2. Stretch Out Your Easter Break:

  • Take 14-17 April and 22-25 April Off
With Good Friday on 18 April and Easter Monday on 21 April, taking four days off before and after can give you a 10-day holiday (14–22 April) by using just 8 days of annual leave.

3. Long May Weekends:

  • Early May Bank Holiday (5 May)
Take 6-9 May off to enjoy a 9-day break from 3 May (Saturday) to 11 May (Sunday) by using 4 days of annual leave.
  • Spring Bank Holiday (26 May)
Take 27-30 May off to enjoy another 9-day break from 24 May (Saturday) to 1 June (Sunday) by using 4 days of annual leave.

4. August Summer Bank Holiday (England, Wales, Northern Ireland):

  • Take 26-29 August Off
The summer bank holiday falls on Monday, 25 August, and if you take the 26-29 August off, you can enjoy a 9-day break from 23 August (Saturday) to 31 August (Sunday) by using just 4 days of annual leave.

5. Christmas Break:

  • Take 29–31 December Off
Christmas Day falls on Thursday, 25 December, and Boxing Day is Friday, 26 December. If you take off 29-31 December (Monday-Wednesday), you’ll enjoy a 10-day break from 25 December to 5 January 2026 by using only 3 days of annual leave.

By carefully planning your annual leave, you can significantly extend your breaks without depleting your holiday allowance. Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway or a longer holiday, these tips will help you get the most out of your 2025 bank holidays.

Start planning your time off now, and make 2025 your best year yet for holidays!
